ZOTAC Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 Super Review

Introduction

The Zotac Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 Super is a twin fan model that is predominantly more compelling and demanding graphics card than the rest of the GTX 1650 Super cards. However, there are only a few performance changes between the two models. These cards are more towards the better end and give an overall good score on the benchmarks than GTX 1650 and AMD RX 5500 XT.

ZOTAC released their version of GTX 1650 Super to compete with the MSI GeForce GTX 1650 Super and Gigabyte GTX 1650 Super. There is a certain difference between these GTX 1650 Super models that we have extensively covered in their review.

Originally the GTX 1650 Super fall few points short of reaching the potential of GTX 1660 cards. If you want decent gaming at 1080p above 60 FPS, then Geforce GTX 1650 Super is better than GTX 1650. The Super version is definitely the best buy over the GTX 1650 standard.

With the release of the original GeForce GTX 1650, there were concerns regarding its miserable overclocking potential and overpricing compared to the performance and features. ZOTAC Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 Super fills this void and provides performance at a reasonable price tag. Moreover, its potential to beat fellow AMD cards boosted its sales.

The main improvement in the GeForce GTX 1650 Super relies on TU116 rather than the TU117 variant that we saw in 1650 basic. The variant on Super is a chopped-down version of Tu116, and it packs performance improvements. This variant also powers the original GTX 1660 Ti, GTX 1660, and GeForce GTX 1660 Super cards.

Zotac Gaming GeForce GTX Super has a twin fan model that packs in a compact design. If you want a graphics card that fits well in your compact PC space, then this is the best option in this price range. This dual-slot card has a small size and can fit well in a most compact build. The size of the card at its longest point is only 6.2 inches.

Nvidia has set the clock boost of GTX 1650 Super cards to 1725 MHz as a reference value. ZOTAC GTX 1650 Super has the same clock boost. This is somewhat disappointing when the competitors like EVGA are offering a 1755 MHz clock boost. However, in our test, we have seen good performance from this card in terms of processing regardless of clock boost sitting at base value.

The power draw difference between GTX 1650 and GTX 1650 super is noticeable. The previous card does not need any cables to power it while it manages to run on 75 watts. For 1650 Super, there is a need for a 6-pin connector and 100 watts to run smoothly.

The card features three types of ports located at the back of the card. It has HDMI 2.0  port, DisplayPort 1.4, and a DVI-D connector.

A Closer Look

The Zotac Gaming GTX 1650 Super has two 70mm fans that are present inside the compact body. However, they are smaller in size but still manage to dissipate the heat very well. The cooler design provides more cooling over the radiator and maintains the chipset temperature. Overall, the card size is compact despite retaining the two-fan model.

The chipset inside the card is energy efficient. It only consumes power using a single 6-pin power connector for efficient performance. The additional power from the connector helps to sustain the overclocked cards as they need relatively more power for generating hardcore performance.

Zotac sticks with the standard two-slot design as it helps in improving the system compatibility for a wide range of devices. The width of the design perfectly fits the PCIe bracket and is not wider than its size. This size adoption makes the card suitable for most cases. You can use it even inside compact-sized rigs with little room for a graphics card.

For providing maximum ventilation and additional cooling effect, the rear end of the card has good dynamics. You can find an HDMI port, DisplayPort, and DVI ports on the cards. The presence of various ports increases the compatibility of the cards with older and modern displays.

Features

Zotac Features the Turing architecture in their 1650 super. This architecture is more beneficial and provides a performance boost to match the performance of graphics cards of a similar category. Turing architecture enables you to perform heavy tasks without putting much strain on the CPU resources, and it can handle most of the queries related to encoding within its hardware.

Gamers, especially streamers, can use Zotac Gaming GTX 1650 Super cards for getting seamless streaming. NVENC turning encoder by NVIDIA does help to stream the gaming without putting stress on the CPU resources. If you are a streamer that does not require more than 1080p gaming, this card best suits your budget.

The G-Sync compatibility in Zotac GeForce 1650 Super is beneficial for compatible monitors. This technology helps to maintain a fine line between the resolution and FPS. In short, if your monitor is compatible with G-Sync technology, then you can observe fewer performance drops as the resolution and FPS synchronize all the time.

Gamers always fantasize about multi-display setups for getting maximum view angle and robust gaming. Zotac GeForce GTX 1650 Super support triple display. You can connect to three different monitors and enjoy a comprehensive view for getting the upper hand on the competitors while playing multiplayer games like PUBG and Fortnite.

As standard compatibility, almost all the GTX 1650 Super graphics cards work with Direct X 12 and OpenGL 4.6. This compatibility provides improved graphics. For getting better graphics and additional smoothness, always use the latest version of these applications.

Default Vs Overclocking

With the default boost clock of 1725 MHz, the card already packs decent power to run the games in 1080p resolution at higher FPS. If you want the maximum out of your graphics card and want to get more performance, then overclocking is the best solution.

We have tried to overclock the Zotac Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 Super graphics card. The main issue we faced to get the stable overclock was its relatively tiny cooling system to support long-term performance without crashes.

When we first started the overclocking on GTX 1650 super, we were not very optimistic about getting much out of it. However, during the overclock, we continue to get higher clock speed gradually. The stable overclocks that we observed hit 350 MHz on the memory clock while 225 MHz on the boost clock, which are excellent stats for this compact-sized graphics card.

Power and Temperature Testing

Zotac GeForce Gaming 1650 Super utilizes 100W power and connects with 6-pin PCIe compliance power ports. The power consumption level is very minimalistic compared to the other big guys in the graphics cards industry. It utilizes minimum power while providing almost the same performance as standard GeForce GTX 1660 cards.

During the temperature testing, we have found that the graphics card heats but under a bearable temperature. The temperature rises even on the highest demanding games is within tolerable limits. The dual-fan design prevents heat buildup in its compact design. However, the cooling power is not out of the world and performs okayish.

Gaming Performance

We have tested Zotac Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 Super against many popular gaming titles. We have run three stress tests to check the performance of the card. The GTX 1650 Super by Zotac performed 30% faster than the standard variant of 1650 cards. However, these stats are for the tests we conducted on 1080p resolution. When we tested the performance on 1440p resolution, the performance comparison went down to almost 20%, but the gameplay is still playable.

On the Ultra setting on 1440p resolution, the GTX 1650 Super managed to perform 15% faster than 1660 cards. On the game tiles like Total War: Warhammer 2, Forza Horizon 4, and Hitman 2, the card performed really well. The NVIDIA Turing architecture favored gaming performance on various titles, including Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

However, the gaming performance of the Zotac Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 Super is almost at par with the performance of other GTX 1650 super cards. On a 1080p medium, the staggering performance of this card managed to break 60 FPS limits. But when switched to 1080p Ultra, the games showed an FPS limit to 60, which is still reasonably good for smoothly playing the game.

For most of our tests, the Zotac GTX 1650 Super Gaming managed to sustain the 60 FPS cap. But for the more demanding titles, there are movements when we observed a decline to 50 FPS. The overall performance remained stable, and we can easily declare GTX 1650 Super to be the best budget card for 1080p gaming on higher settings.

Bottom Line

Zotac Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 Super is a dual-fan graphics card that features a solid performance than standard 1650 cards. It has upgraded specification that makes it best suited for the gaming needs. Moreover, it does not hit heavy on your budget and provides ultimate 1080p gaming at a reasonable price. If you are looking for a card that best can perform better than 1650 cards, then Zotac 1650 Super Twin Fan is the best option.
