Xbox One X Review – Is it Worth Buying in 2022

Welcome to the GamingExpert’s Xbox One X review. Before we continue, I want to clarify that the Xbox One X (Check the latest price) is the futuristic console that has beaten all the consoles in almost every aspect, excluding price. Shrouded in matte black color, the Xbox One X is equipped with an eight-core CPU, 12GB of GDDR5 RAM, and the GPU, which clocks at 1172MHz. In this review, I will try to discuss all the essential aspects of One X ranging from performance, quality, design, price, and comparison with other high-performance consoles available in the market.

Xbox One X Review

Soon after it was released in 2017, the Xbox One X has successfully grabbed the top position on the gaming consoles’ list. The claim is still backed by its excellent performance, stunning visuals, and capability to efficiently handle cross-platform games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare, World of Warships: Legends, Realm Royale and Minecraft.

Though its Xbox One X and its competitor, PS4 Pro, are in direct competition, the former is still the king of consoles. In the future, the competition will be tougher than ever due to the release of PS5 in December 2020.

The Xbox One X is similar to its predecessor One S in terms of internal power supply, storage capacity, and vertical and horizontal placement. The only difference is that the Xbox One S is a bit more appealing than this model due to the striking white color, but I think that is OK, as the Xbox One’s limited edition (Check the latest Price) comes in white color.

Design

Those who have already used the Xbox One S could easily imagine the design of One X. As I have stated earlier, in terms of look, the only difference is the color option that Microsoft has removed in its limited edition. Other than color differences, both consoles are the same in terms of design. (Interestingly, the white color is now available in Xbox One X Pass Special Edition.)

However, for others who haven’t yet seen the Xbox One S, I would say that this console comes in a rectangular shape, equal to the size of a Blu-ray player. The matte grey finish coating is actually a very nice and appealing color. But if you have used white color, this might seem odd for you. If I were to decide, it doesn’t matter whatever color you have; the real point is you have the king of consoles on your side.

The distinctive feature of Xbox One X is that, besides playing Xbox One games, you will be able to play 4K Blu-ray games, which makes Xbox One X worth the money. Bear in mind that none other than the Xbox One gaming console has genuinely won the 4K feature. Though Sony PS4 Pro comes with 4K gaming, it is still much behind the competition.

In terms of ports, and cables the Xbox One X is equipped with an HDMI input and output port, a power connector, two additional USB ports, an Ethernet port, an Optical Audio port, and an IR output. Sadly, in the latest consoles, including One X and One S, Microsoft has stopped adding the motion-sensing camera Kinect port, which is really disappointing.

As I have mentioned earlier: Xbox One X is a futuristic gaming console. In the near future, the users who are tired of using the traditional controller will control the console using a keyboard and mouse. Though already offered by Dreamcast, Microsoft’s new feature likely to be offered will really be a major shift in the nature of controllers’ use. High-end players are well aware that the best gaming keyboards and gaming mice offer the greatest perfection in stability, accuracy, and precision while aiming target in gaming sessions.

For an Impressive gaming experience, you need one of these gaming monitors under a tight budget:

Features and Specs

Surprisingly the Xbox One is built with amazing features, including; 12GB of GDDR5 RAM, a powerful GPU that can be clocked at more than 1150MHz, and an even more powerful 2.3GHz CPU with eight cores. This is where you will see the real difference in performance and quality. The huge RAM combined with a power-oriented GPU offers 40 graphical computing power units of up to 6 teraflops, which is impressive.

Besides, the specs make the console perfectly suitable to handle 4K HDR gaming without the problems of lagging, pixel distortion, or slow graphical performance. Unlike a dedicated VRAM, the 12GB of GDDR5 RAM is divided between the GPU and the system, making it a bit difficult to compare with other consoles.

The good thing is that the CPU gives an exponential increase in performance due to 8 Jaguar CPU cores. Compared to the Original Xbox One and One S, a nearly 75% increase in performance was recorded in One X through overclocking of CPU at 2.3GHz. That is to say, the performance is nearly the same as offered by the Intel Core i3 processor.

Xbox One X TV performance

It is worth noting that, while analyzing the system of Xbox One X, Sony’s PS4 Pro, and Nintendo Switch, the Xbox One X is much better than other consoles. Basically, Sony’s GPU offers 36 Graphics Core Next Computer Units at 911MHz, although it has less than 8GB DDR5 RAM and a 2.1 GHz CPU. On the other hand, Xbox One offers 40 graphical core units at 1172MHz. Xbox One X is still the king because the PS4’s memory exhausts 218GB/s and offers up to 4 Teraflops of performance that is a bit lower than 6 Tflops offered by Xbox One X.

The only problem in this console lies in the limited storage capacity. You will get only a 1TB hard drive that can store hardly 15-16 high-quality games which cover more than 50GB. You have compromise over this problem as still no other option is available to expand the storage capacity.

Game Performance

The only thing a gamer needs from a console is outstanding gaming performance, and this is where Xbox One X excels all its competitors. The gaming performance is as great as the company has advertised. Not matter whatever game you are playing, whether it is in 1080p resolution or 4K HDR, the One X won’t make you feel regret in any case. We will try to explain each corner of gaming performance offered by Xbox One X.

Xbox One X gaming experience

The good thing is that the Xbox One X offers a Supersampling feature similar to the PS4 Pro. In Supersampling, when connected to a 1080p gaming monitor or TV, the console produces four times better images, and the resolution looks like that of a 4K gaming TV. This makes clearer, sharper, and better images even on a 1080p screen. Although one cannot compare a 1080p screen with one supporting 4K, the images produced on 1080p will be much better than a standard 1080p screen.

Those who really know how to differentiate between a 4K and 1080p could easily recognize the real change in image sharpness, brightness, and clarity. They would definitely admire the worth of the console that will let them see the sky above the could, flowers beyond their colors, and large and clear buildings from far away. The Xbox One X will prove to be the one that can meet their expectations.

This is not enough; if you have a 4K HDR monitor, the reality will be unleashed here, as the Xbox One X will now be able to show off its full strength. Not only will the games be played at the original 4K display, but also, there will be greater color variation, more details, and better sharpness than you could’ve expected. What more should I say? If I am not exaggerating, the results will be in front of you once you explore Xbox One X’s potential.

Besides visual improvements, the major difference you will experience is on the performance side. Basically, I am talking about the speed of the game that is calculated in frames per second. I want to cut the crap; in brief, the Xbox One X runs the games in standard, yet most demanding, 60 frames per second (fps). This rate actually matches the same offered by most of the TVs. Besides, this is twice the rate offered by PS4 Pro, which offers 30 fps. Sadly, in previous models of Xbox One, the issue was about a decline in the frame rate, which was successfully resolved in One X.

Surprisingly, the Xbox One games were much better and improved in every aspect on One X. Most high-end games couldn’t even touch the 60fps threshold level and the rate varied between 40-50 fps most of the time. That is to say; you will still be able to save one-fourth of the speed for the next future games that may cross the 60fps level. Till then, you need not worry about performance.

Xbox One X special edition

Multiple criteria are there to talk about the performance of the console. And what criteria are sufficient for Xbox One X to make it an Enhanced Xbox One X? Like Sony, there are no minimum criteria fixed by Microsoft. Broadly speaking, we can find it in any three-way: Frame rate, HDR visual processing, or 4K visuals. In this way, you can either get a 4K visual or framerate of 60fps. Now, this is up to the game developer what kind of combination they choose for their gaming.

Interface

Since it has been two years of its launch and the software has been updated twice, the Interface is much improved and looks better than before. The updated design looks like a combination of newly released Windows 10 and Xbox 360.

Similar to the blade design of Xbox 360, the interface has separate Home and Store tabs. Besides, you will tab for Entertainment, Community, and Mixer. The interface is user-friendly, easy to navigate, simple to use, and has fast performance with no bugs.

The good thing about the updated software version is that you can pin the apps or games on the Home screen for easy navigation. This is a perfect idea to run the downloaded games or apps. This is a nice addition and good to remain connected to the console as well as the game you are currently playing.

Sound quality

Finally, the wait is over. At last, there is a gaming console that comes with a decent sound. The new Xbox One X is equipped with DTS and Dolby Atmos sound. Using the Dolby Atmos feature, you can now connect your amp and speakers to your console-setup.

The Sound quality is fine. While playing Transformers: The Dark Knight, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, we experienced some glitches in balance and echo. But, the sound while playing music and watching movies was much better than it was in gaming. However, with all the best things in hand, something as just good is not a big compromise. Plus, you can’t expect something louder from a console that is made for gaming.

Xbox One X Vs PS4 Pro – Which is better?

CPU2.3 GHz2.1 GHz
GPU1172MHz900 MHz
Dimensions11.81 x 9.45 x 2.36 inches18.5 x 4.9 x 15 inches

The numbers speak themselves. Though both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro offer 4K HDR resolution, the Xbox One X offers 4K UHD Blu-ray drive, which PS4 Pro lacks. Besides, Xbox One X is at a clear-cut advantage over RAM, GPU clock, and CPU performance.

Technically speaking, the Xbox One X is far better in terms of performance, GPU clocking, Computing units, 4K HDR gameplay, and features, considering the price is now the same for both console. Now it is up to you which choice you make for your gaming console

Testing Results

Microsoft has done a commendable job in developing a visionary product that can last longer and perform excellently. The Xbox One X is one of the few products that set precedents for the coming products. In every aspect, the product won’t disappoint you, whether you are using it for longer gaming sessions or stream videos for entertainment. This is actually an all-in-one package at a reasonable price.

At the start of the Xbox One X review, we stated that the Xbox One is a futuristic gaming console that you can use for many years to come. If you want to feel the difference between what we have said, use two consoles side by side and then distinguish the features and performance. The decision is yours. I am pretty sure Microsoft’s Xbox One X will beat out all other consoles available in the market.
