Razer Deathadder Chroma Review (2022 Update)

Welcome to GamingExpert’s Razer Deathadder Chroma review.

Update: Razer has launched the new version of Deathadder Chroma as Deathadder V2

Without a single shadow of a doubt, the Razer is one of the best brands in making gaming peripherals. The company has achieved fame in developing high-end hardware for gaming. The commitment of the brand to making the most promising products can be seen from the Deathadder Chroma USB gaming mouse.

In Razer Deathadder Chroma’s review, we found the mouse highly ergonomic with outstanding gaming performance, especially in those games where every click is a matter of life or death of a whole gaming session. It’s an RGB gaming mouse by Razer for beginners featuring a comfortable design and a simple button layout.

Deathadder Chrome – Design

Measuring at 5 x 2.76 x 1.73 inches the Deathadder Chroma is a regular-sized mouse. The textured style plastic surface and rubber grips on both sides are pretty effective to prevent the slipping of the mouse in long gaming sessions. The mouse is equipped with five buttons (two standard buttons for right and left click, a scroll wheel button, and two customizable buttons on the left side).

The customizable buttons function best for right-hand gamers, and much sensitive to minimum actuation force as offered by the standard buttons; on the other hand for left-handers these buttons are annoying and of little use. This is the basic reason that the Deathadder Chroma is one of the best gaming mice for right-hand gamers.

The W-shaped space, on the front side of the mouse, allows the natural placement of fingers, reduces fatigue, and provides greater comfort than a traditional mouse. On its bottom side is the Infrared Optical sensor that offers 10,000 DPI settings. Sadly, this is much lower than the Logitech G Pro X Superlight‘s 25000 DPI.

Customization

Bear in mind that the Razer Deathadder Chroma is a mouse that does not offer a lot of customization in weight adjustment or other features. Rather, it is what it is. Equipped with five buttons, including the wheel button, the mouse looks simple in its shape and design with no additional tweaking. The three buttons are the ones necessary for every mouse. However, what can be customized in this mouse are the two additional buttons on the left side by using Razer Synapse software.

The mouse, sadly, lacks buttons for switching DPI sensitivity or customizing macros, which means this is not for you if you prefer such features on the go. For this purpose, you need to go for alternatives such as Logitech G502 Hero. The mouse is shrouded in simplicity and equipped for greater performance, and that is all about it.

The Razer Deathadder Chroma features RGB lighting that illuminates the mouse wheel and the Razer logo at its palm rest. The lighting effects can be customized and changed according to your gaming environment. The mouse comes with 16.8 million customizable color options that you can select from signature Razer green to electric blue or pastel pink. Unlike the CORSAIR M65 Pro RGB, the color options on the scroll wheel are limited to static or spectrum cycling. The most fascinating color option is Razer’s default bright green, which, I think, is pretty beautiful.

Comfort:

At the first glance, the simplicity of the mouse might not fascinate you. But once you start using this mouse, you will ultimately realize its importance due to the next level of comfort it offers. This is because of its ergonomic design that your fingers won’t fatigue, even after long hours of use.

The textures styles on the palm and the rubber on its sides offer a greater level of grip and don’t let your finger slip. For right-hand users, the comfort level and utility will be even more than left-handers due to the customizable switches on the left side.

Unlike the Logitech G502, the Deathadder Chroma lacks a weight adjustment feature, yet I was still able to handle this weight of roughly 100 grams due to the balanced grip. Besides, the switches needed not a huge force to click; rather they are equipped for a moderate actuation force to avoid the fingers get fatigued.

Though this design is not for lefties, another similar edition by Razer named Deathadder Chroma Left-Hand Edition is available for left-handers. The design is the same with similar features and values. No doubt the left-hand gamers are almost 10-15 percent, this Left-Hand Model is perhaps a blessing in disguise for them.

Software

The Deathadder Chroma uses one of the most appealing software ever developed by Razer, “Synapse”. Those who are already using Razer products would perhaps know better than me, how good and user-friendly the software is. All the products, including keyboards, mice, and headsets are Synapse enabled. You just need to install the software and you are all done controlling all the Razer products using this software.

After I connected the mouse to my PC, the software automatically detected the device and checked if firmware and software are up to date. After the required updates, the customization panel allows complete customization features that include lighting pattern, calibrating mouse according to mouse surface, adjusting the sensitivity of the optical sensor, and customizing polling rate. I didn’t experience any issue in using the software; the installation was quite easier; the customization interface was very simple and I was able to customize the device according to my room environment.

Aside from the customization of the mouse, the Synapse even lets you customize the mouse sensitivity through different presets according to Razer’s mousepad. Other than the Razer’s presets do run the calibration test that will allow the mouse to tune the mousepad surface.

Gaming Performance

After a few hours of gaming, you would definitely love this simple yet effective gaming mouse. This will fit comfortably for high-end gamers, irrespective of their hand size. At first, I was suspicious of this mouse and thought, “how could this average-sized gaming mouse improve my gaming performance”; but I was surprised after I became used to this mouse and played Final Fantast XIV for more than five hours continuously without any pain in my hands. Not only it was two hours more than the Logitech G502, but it was also due to the less distraction from the minimum buttons, and the textured style that provided support to my finger.

The mouse is precise in performance, as you get what you pay for. Though the mechanical switches in keyboards have always got a mixture of criticism and appraisal from gamers, the addition of the switches in mice has not only improved the performance but also enhanced the precision and accuracy of mouse buttons. Whether I was playing at fast or low speeds, the mouse didn’t let me down and responded with organic fluidity and exact accuracy which I was looking for in the best gaming mouse.

Admittedly the Deathadder Chroma lacks some of the finest features such as acceleration adjustment, present in almost all SteelSeries gaming mice, and weight adjustment, yet the mouse is still worth the money without any exaggeration. This is the only reason the Deathadder Chroma is the most popular mouse and listed in our best gaming mice.

The Deathadder Chroma is normally priced at $70. The good thing is that the mouse is usually available at a healthy discount, especially during sales season like BlackFriday sales. In those days, you might get this mouse as low as $40.

The Razer Deathadder Chroma is the most promising gaming mouse that is shrouded in simplicity. But, don’t get distracted by its simple design as the mouse delivers what it promises.
