But wait! Before we get right into their comparison, here’s a detailed review of both of them.

Playstation5 Review –A powerful innovation

PS5 Overview

Playstation5 is the latest iteration and Sony’s most powerful approach towards the gaming consoles with a captivating next-gen gaming experience. And if you keep on adding more gaming titles into it, its performance gets even better.

With the performance and aesthetics going hand in hand, the PS5 is powerful inside to outside that might be too hefty for some small setups.

A couple of cutting corners hold it slightly back from being a 5-star product. Otherwise, it was the most welcoming and anticipated upgrade for every gaming geek.

Let’s just start right by exploring the biggest power hidden in this huge tower! You know what? It comes in two versions –a standard one and a Digital Edition that doesn’t have an optical drive. With a decent size of 16” x 4” x 10”, it beats the blocky Xbox Series X construction away.

We must say, it’s quite a hefty unit that you may find it challenging to adjust to a comfortable place on your media corner.

The design has some traditional vibes of PlayStation legacy with an overall black and white durable plastic construction. The curved side panels frame a glossy surface around the core, running along the entire length.

The colored LEDs accents behind the collar glow orange when the system isn’t working and blue when you turn it on. Let’s explore the secret behind PS5’s remarkable performance!

Sony’s approach towards updating the controller from DualShock 4 to the new DualSense is quite more exaggerated. The prominent fang-shaped grips on the controller gaming pad aid you a lot to maneuver the hard times.

PS5 can run every game with optimal speeds –all thanks to its AMD Zen 2 CPU that can reach boost clocks up to 3.5GHz. You get an immersive and deep gaming environment due to the advanced RDNA 2 GPU with exceptional 2.23HHz speeds.

With the 16GB RAM and 885GB SSD that not even store games but load them with lightning-fast speeds –far better than hard times faced by PS4 Pro with HDD.

Sony has introduced the best thing, UHD Blu-ray optical drive, in its PlayStation series for the first time that can seamlessly play the 4K video content. Moreover, the fantastic CPU and GPU, Miles Morales, and brilliant Manhattan reproduction in the Spider-Man.

Xbox Series X Review

Xbox Series X

Let’s just start right from Microsoft’s most innovative approach towards boosting overall gaming performance and visual fidelity than all the previous iterations. And you know what? Its exceptional backward compatibility and ultra-quick resume give some extra edges to this console.

But wait, before we get into some other perks, it hard to deny that it lags in some significant areas, including exclusive launch titles and UI improvements. But wait! Let’s just ignore this for some time and explore what it is hiding inside.

The Xbox Series X officially came into the market on 10th November 2020, throughout the globe –it’s the latest series, no doubt. The two-day back inauguration than PS5 caught the pockets of gaming enthusiasts, snapping-up the whole stock worldwide.

It comes with some lightning-fast speeds, extremely quiet built-in hardware, and surprising performance that shoots the gaming performance to the next levels. No matter you’re up for some old traditional games or the latest powerful version, the Xbox Series X lets you perform better than before.

Let’s talk about its aesthetics! It comes in a rectangular and blocky construction with compactness and practicality going hand in hand. The base isn’t removable, and you can’t open the console right away, unlike PS5.

Overall, it comes in a black matte body with a scratch-resistant coating that makes it last longer. You know what? It will make your gaming arsenal look sleeker and stylish.

Moreover, it comes with a built-in fan on the top that veils its appearance and makes it look like an LED. Trust me, it’s that quiet, and you’ll never hear its presence even when the system is under strenuous loads. There’s an efficient heat-management system to fuel-up your hefty games and give them powerful jerks without getting down.

The Xbox Series X controller is quite updated than its predecessors, including a gripped D-pad, USB-C port, and a new share button.

The CPU works in tandem with the SSD to become faster and more efficient than the previous Xbox One X and One S Series. Its performance in Destiny 2 and Sea of Thieves is quite impressive and twice faster than all other gaming consoles.

Even some old games like GTA-V go well on its 1 TB total storage. But wait, you can only consume 802GB out of it because the remaining is consumed by Microsoft’s Quick Resume feature and Operating System. That’s the secret behind ultra-quick swapping times between different games.

Microsoft’s approach towards extracting the most power out of SSD is quite practical due to the latest Velocity Architecture. This Xbox Series has a remarkable bump to 12-teraflops of GPU’s performance, with some futuristic games reaching 60fps of speeds.

How can we ignore its backwards compatibility with tons of games? Well, yes! It’s a thing to consider too.

The Design

Let’s just start right from the aesthetics because that matters the most for the quite picky people in building their gaming arsenal. Trust me, the console’s design is a matter of your preference.

If aesthetics is all you need to prioritize, things may get too complicated. How can you compromise your gaming performance for the sake of the design?

That’s the reason that despite some future-proof specs and brilliant power, PS5 couldn’t be able to make out enough to stand by its construction. And that’s one of the significant cutting corners that dragged it away from becoming a 5-star product.

Playstation 5 image

It’s quite comically large and a little challenging to switch between horizontal and vertical configuration –all thanks to Sony’s asymmetric approach. The front panel is liable to pick up fingerprint traces. The ‘disc eject’ and ‘power’ buttons are difficult to distinguish, making things difficult at times.

You strongly consider waiting for an updated redesign version instead of going for one that doesn’t hold well with you. Although that’s not what you should do in every case, in PS5, it’s really a thing to consider.

Xbox Series X image

On the other hand, Xbox Series X is quite bulkier, heavier with hidden tactics to deal with space better than PS5. It doesn’t give the vibes of an oversized router; in fact, the sleek and matte-black finishing makes it look powerful and decent.

Plus, if you keep it in the vertical position, it looks like a miniature version of a PC or little refrigerator placed on the tabletop. We truly appreciate the explicit power button defined clearly on the front panel.

Moreover, the pairing button makes the headache of managing wireless connections painless. The controller also comes with a gripped texture, lightweight construction, and practical buttons on it. The overall design is quite sensible, despite being a little conservative.

But wait! There’s one thing that Sony had kept in mind, but Microsoft has left behind. The PS5 console comes with a USB Type-C port to gear up a lot more accessories by using USB-C compatible adapters.

It’s an important thing that most gamers need and go for PS5 instead of Xbox Series X. It allows you to get as many devices in your gameplay, including the wheels, headsets, and many more.

The winner of the round?

No doubt, Xbox Series X deserves to win this round.

The Performance

It’s hard to compare two powerful gaming consoles and clear one winner, but we’ll try our best to make your confusions fade away. It’s hard for two good reasons:

  • There are not enough third-party games right now available for both PS5 and Xbox Series X.
  • There’s no explicit tool to measure the frame rates and resolution deeply.

Here we’re going to compare two games and their performance with these two consoles, keeping the above aspects in mind. The Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition are quite powerful to test.

The Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a huge open-world title that makes the things easy to measure the loading times when you move towards a distant point on the map. The Devil May Cry 5 is a fast, frantic action game that brings framerates to drop for noticing the speeds.

There’s no exaggeration in saying Sony has a unique approach in engineering the PS5 console with exceptional load times.

While playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you’ll notice that it won’t take more than a minute to move into the game from the main menu bar. Plus, it takes ten seconds during fast travel from one point to another.

However, Xbox Series X may take a much longer time for loading the game initially, but there’s no difference in travel times.

During gameplay, if you have any controller, either Xbox Series X or PS5 version, and play Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you won’t be able to distinguish between their performances.

Both controllers are quite efficient at running the game at 4K with 60fps, and there’s hardly any difference. The animation fluidity and lighting are similar on both consoles, but Texture pop-in is quite noticeable in the Xbox Series.

On the other hand, the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 5 has a quite identical story. Despite many similarities, there’s only a difference in the lighting of both consoles during this gameplay.

At this time, Xbox Series X offers a richer ray tracing to ensure optimal contrasts between shadows and light, most probably in the early eerie purple-and-red landscapes. Furthermore, Digital Foundry provided the stats to back it up and confirm it.

Adding a bit into it, Xbox Series X remains smoother on turning 120fps performance mode. But how can we forget the quick load times of PS5?

The winner of the round

It might be too early to declare any winner because we’ve tested not many games. But still, we’d love to proclaim PS5 as the clear winner of the round.

Games Library of Xbox Series

Games Library

At the time of launch, Sony and Microsoft have quite different approaches towards building the game libraries.

The Xbox Series X believes that you can enjoy all those games you didn’t pick up on the previous Xbox One Series while keeping the performance level at the peak.

On the other hand, there’s an inclusion of a list of exclusive titles in this new PS5 console. But the thing is, there’s nothing exceptional or something new because many titles were already present on PS4.

It’s undeniable that PS5’s gaming collection is quite more exciting than Xbox’s. When considering the first-party titles only, the PS5 has launched Demon’s soul, Spider-Man, A Big Adventure, Miles Morales, and Astro’s Playroom. Astonishing! Isn’t it?

While the Xbox Series X didn’t come with any such exclusive titles at the time of launch and There’s a list of 30 ‘optimized for Xbox Series X/S’ titles by Microsoft. Some of them include Forza Horizon 4, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and Gear 5.

Although these optimizations are quite impressive, many aren’t brand new; they are already present in Xbox One Series.

Moving ahead towards the third-party titles, both of these games are well-equipped with them. Some third-party titles include Borderlands 3, Call of Duty: Warzone, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Fortnite, Black Ops Cold War, and many more.

Moreover, both consoles have exceptional backwards compatibility features, with the third-party parity going hand in hand.

Moreover, Microsoft has brought into the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate inclusion in its advanced series to which Sony has no good answer. You just have to purchase a $15 subscription service per month to download up to 100 games among various gaming genres.

On the other hand, Sony isn’t lagging much behind, thanks to its innovative ‘PS. Plus Collection’ that lets its users download some PS4 classics.

The winner of the round

Both these consoles have a futuristic approach, with some brilliant updates coming the next year. From Halo Infinite to Rift Apart and Ratchet & Clank, they will cover-up the vast gaming genres.

If we restrict ourselves to the library both the consoles have, there’s no exaggeration in calling PS5 the winner of this round.

A Complicated Battle of GPU and SSDs –PS5 vs. Xbox Series X

PS5 VS Xbox Series X - CPU

The Graphics Card

Microsoft preferred the raw GPU in its advanced Xbox Series X, while Sony has gone for SSD’s speeds and efficiency.

There’s no doubt in Sony’s unique approach towards GPU, CPU, and incredible speeds of SSDs that will positively influence the next generation of games.

Let’s talk about PS5’s GPU first! It comes with an AMD-based Radeon RDNA Navi Graphics card with Zen 2 cores clocking the speeds at 3.5GHz. It ensures 10.28 teraflops along with 36 compute units that can run the system at 2.23GHz.

On the other hand, Microsoft has used eight AMD-based Zen 2 cores, clocking the speeds at 3.8GHz in its Xbox Series X. Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) is enabled on Xbox that drops the CPU’s cores to 3.6GHz, leaving a minor difference behind.

Let’s dig a little deeper! There’s a variable-frequency approach in Sony’s PS5 series on both GPU and CPU. The console comes with some thermal limits of the system that’s a depiction of the power budget.

Sony believes that if they’ll keep computing units lesser and clock rates higher, you’d better able to extract every bit of performance out of your PS5.

The SSD Storage

Storage is the point where both PS5 and Xbox Series X are poles apart. You get an impressive solution to storage problems in the form of 825GB SSD along with 5.5GB/sec of performance. You can store a lot and a lot more without compromising the gaming speeds.

The Xbox Series X comes with a 1TB NVMe SSD with almost less than half the raw throughput, i.e., 2.4GB/sec. It ultimately results in a bulk of the difference between the load times of the two consoles.

Moreover, Sony allows a storage-expanding option in PS5 with NVMe drives, but with caution. There’s much anticipation to see PCIe 4.0 drives to match Sony’s bandwidth in PS5. But wait! This compatibility will be quite complex because there’s a need for validation that Sony will provide.

On the whole, there’s good news for PS5 owners! You can now pick up a capacious and much faster upgrade to your PS5 –the PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.

Microsoft has a partnership with Seagate to give out 1 TB proprietary expansion cards in the Xbox Series X. But there’s no explicit idea about the additional cost you’ll have to pay for these proprietary cards.

The winner of the round?

Without any exaggeration of doubts, we’d love to proclaim Sony’s PS5 as the winner of both the GPU and storage round.

PS5 DualSense Controller vs. Xbox Series X Wireless Controller

PS5 Vs Xbox Series X - controllers

Here’s a win-win deal for you! There’s hardly any difference we could find in the controller’s performance. If you get an ambiguous controller in your hand, you won’t be able to tell either it’s Xbox Series or PS5’s one.

Xbox Series X played well in building strong and ultra-responsive controller aesthetics. It’s quite identical to the controller of the Xbox One model with a great weight-to-performance ratio.

The few increments in the advanced version include textured grips, enhanced D-pad, shoulder buttons, and most important is the ‘share’ button. This controller boosts up wireless connectivity to unimaginable heights.

Inspired by the Xbox Elite Controller Series 2, this one comes out with a D-pad and enhanced form factor to make it fit for everyone. The Xbox console significantly reduces the usual 8ms latency on its analog controllers –all thanks to Microsoft’s Dynamic Latency Input.

Some other brilliant tweaks in the Xbox controller try to keep every gamer’s back. But wait! Microsoft has used AA batteries instead of built-in rechargeable batteries that is quite archaic, but it pasts much additional cost onto the end-user.

On the other hand, the DualSense PS5 controller is a remarkable departure from its predecessor DualShock 4 –the best controller in the PlayStation’s history so far.

It comes in a sleeker two-toned color scheme giving some solid gaming vibes that even match the console’s body. The thumbsticks are positioned in the same place as they used to be in PS4. We still see a touch panel on the top for precise gaming control.

Moreover, the adaptive triggers for L2 and R2 buttons resist your fingers and make you fall deeper into the visuals. No doubt, it’s the most future-proof design having different force feedback for developers.

One of the biggest caveats in the PS4 was average battery life. Thanks to Sony for addressing that problem and introducing a strong battery in the PS5 console. You can use it for a good 12 hours while frequently using adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.

The bigger grips, sensitive haptics, and an innovative built-in mic allow the most efficient in-game chats when there’s not enough time for video calls. The impressive haptic feedback minimizes rolling object’s impacts in a box for mimicking the resistance when you’re trying to push a trigger.

There’s ample space in the touchpad, and the smart haptics can bring you out of the gaming world, just like they immerse you in it.

The winner of the round

So, here’s a tie, and no one wins the round. Both controllers come with some brilliant features and a few cutting corners, making them stand on par with each other.

Backwards Compatibility

In short, both the Xbox Series X and PS5 come with some brilliant backwards compatibility features. But we can’t deny Microsoft’s proficiency in bringing its legacy back in this model too.

The Xbox Series X isn’t only compatible with all the Xbox One games, but it goes remarkably well with Xbox 360 and other Xbox games.

Although we can still see that some original Xbox games are backwards compatible with Xbox 360 but don’t support Xbox Series X, Microsoft’s effort is quite impressive without any friction.

Let’s talk about Sony’s approach towards backwards compatibility! The PS5 console is amazingly compatible with every PS4 game out on the market, but it doesn’t go back from PS4.

The winner of the round

It’s clear that Xbox Series X deserves to win this round.

The Cloud Gaming

Cloud gaming isn’t a big deal for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 –both of them have got some brilliant power for that.

You simply have to download games and start playing on either platform without making a huge difference.

As we know, cloud gaming is quite a futuristic approach that will lead in the coming years; it’s good to know where Microsoft and Sony actually lie.

The PS5 console now comes with a PlayStation that can allow you to stream a lot of PS4 and PS3 games. You can even download a few titles of PS4, but that will cost you $8 per month.

On the other hand, you’ll have to pay $15 a month for streaming games on Xbox Game Plus Ultimate both on PC and Android.

At present, if we’re supposed to choose between these two, trust me; neither of the two consoles has a complete cloud gaming service. But still, due to the inclusion of Android compatibility, Xbox Series X cloud gaming is a better choice.

When it comes to live-streaming on non-gaming PCs, nothing can beat the standards of Sony’s innovative approach in PS5. So here again seems a tie.

Both the consoles need a significant amount of improvements but still hold some strong corners. If you’re looking for a better value for money, we’d recommend you Xbox Series X at the moment for its better room for improvement.

It has powerful hardware, strong blocky aesthetics, a pleasing controller, and a detailed game subscription to lead the next generations of consoles.

The choice is yours! It’s a matter of your preference. No matter which one you choose won’t let you regret it because both of them are powerful enough to fuel-up your gaming.

What about the Size?

There’s no exaggeration in saying that PS5 is one of the largest gaming consoles you have even ever heard of –it’s a giant beast.

It hits your shelves by standing 39cm tall, 10.4cm wide, and 26cm deep –overall having dimensions of 15.4”x 10.2”x 10.4.” No doubt, PS5 stands taller than all the previous iterations of PlayStation and Xbox. It’s even taller than its competitor –the Xbox Series X.

You can either fit the unit vertically in your gaming setups, but it needs to be placed next to your telly. When you place it vertically, it may struggle to fit in smaller and cluttered TV units.

To be on the safe side, let’s just assume that most of the PS5 owners might have ordered it for their 40” or above-sized LEDs. But wait, if you don’t have a roomy setup, the cheaper version, the PS5 Digital Edition, is suitable for you.

Despite being cheaper, it’s much thinner than the PS5 standard version because it lacks a disc tray.

Let’s come into the blocky construction of Xbox Series X that launched with an ambiguity that this monolith-like device can either work horizontally and vertically. However, Microsoft cleared this confusion later.

The Xbox console is 30.1cm tall, 15.1cm wide, and 15.1cm deep. And there’s no doubt that this latest iteration is quite bulky and massive than its predecessor –the Xbox One X.

Although this console is far heavier than its beloved competitor, PS5, the towering of PS5 still stands higher than its blocky construction.

Both Have Nearly The Same Cost!

Xbox Series X’s Price

We praise Microsoft’s latest flagship console, the Xbox Series X, for classic design, long-term potential, and power. Most importantly, it delivers 4K gaming at a one-third price compared to an equivalent gaming PC.

You just have to pay a minimum of $499 for Xbox Series X –it’s a palatable price tag, no doubt. Before we declare it a bargain, it’s better to consider some other factors too.

If you want to extract every bit of performance hidden in your console, you’ll need to spend a little extra on the upgrades. Some of them include:

  • Storage Upgrade for $219: With only 802GB SSD left behind, your SSD would be filling faster with a few games stored inside. It’s because most modern games weigh 30-100GB and sometimes even more. Purchasing an additional 1TB PCIe proprietary expansion slot may alleviate things and provide you enough storage.
  • Rechargeable Battery for $24: Xbox’s one of the biggest cutting corners is the usage of AA batteries. After some lengthy gaming sessions, these batteries run out of juice quickly and annoy you much within the sessions. You can purchase an additional rechargeable battery pack to make your experience better.
  • Spare Wireless Controller for $59: Xbox Series X comes with only one controller, and at times when you want to play games with your partners, an additional controller is a need. It’s an elegantly-build controller that offers you excellent value for money too.

So the actual cost of Xbox Series X is actually undefined.

PlayStation5 Price

Sony’s PS5 is not an exception for being one of the most powerful gaming consoles at almost less than half prices as the gaming PCs. Although the exact cost is the matter of your choice, the tweaking you’d like to introduce, but it still starts at $499.

Moreover, you have a one-step cheaper option, the PS5 Digital Edition that costs not more than $399 to you. There’s no such difference in their performance, but the only thing it lacks is a Blu-Ray disc.

With the 4K gaming experience, a much speedy PCIe 4.0 SSD, both the standard and digital editions are best for under $500. Sounds impressive! Right?

See, Best PS5 headsets for gaming

But wait! It’s just the minimum cost. What about the tweaking you’ve always planned for to get the maximum out of your PS5 console? Here are some important and purchase-worthy upgrades.

  • SSD Upgrade for $200: Out of 825GB built-in SSD, only 667.2GB is available for you because the operating system occupies the rest. Do you think it would be enough to build an extensive games library? Probably not. You’ll need to invest a little more to boost up the storage by 1TB SSD.
  • Pulse 3D Wireless Headset for $99: Sony has introduced Tempest 3D AudioTech in the PS5 for delivering room-filling immersive audio. When you pair your PS5 console with a Pulse 3D Wireless Headset, you’ll explore the real power then. It’s worth making this investment to get the best gaming experience.
  • Spare DualSense Controller for $69: The PS5 console comes with a single DualSense –a remarkable controller. What to do when the controller runs out of battery while you’re in the mid of your game? You must have a spare controller and no doubt, this investment is important too. Because you often play with your friends –an additional controller is a need.
  • PlayStation Plus for $59 per year: Who doesn’t love the multiplayer games and online elements of various titles such as Demon’s Souls? If you’re a hardcore gamer, you need to purchase this subscription to get the best out of your PS5.

The Bottom Line –Overall Winner

Here, the fierce battle between the two most powerful consoles –PS5 and Xbox Series X finally ends. It’s hard to say which one is actually triumphant of this battle!

The thing is, when we consider Sony’s distinctive approach towards building faster SSD storage, the towery design comes right in front of us. It stays confident with its 5.5GBps boost clocks, but the backwards compatibility has hard times with it.

Similarly, when we start admiring the brilliant and durable aesthetics of Xbox Series X, its graphics card and cloud gaming performance hold us back. It wins the round of internal storage, but lags by providing 2.4GBps boost clocks.

What’s the catch, by the way?

Both these consoles feature a futuristic approach towards gaming along with a few cutting corners.

We’d end up saying that the PlayStation5 is the winner of this battle that has won more rounds than Xbox Series X –thanks to Sony’s proficiency and innovation.
