Logitech G915 TKL Review – Is it Worth Buying?

Considered the master of the art and, most appreciated company in making the best-in-class gaming peripherals, Logitech is one of our favorite manufacturers for gaming accessories. The recently released G915 TKL is no exception in reinforcing the company’s manifesto.

Equipped with comfortable switches, low-profile keycaps, unfailing wireless connectivity options, and appealing RGB lighting, the Logitech G915 Tenkeyless delivers everything a gamer dreams of. The only catch the keyboard comes with is its lack of wrist rest. The price is unaffordable for most gamers as it has a price tag of more than $200, needless to mention that it is a compact keyboard loaded with all the required features.

Measuring at 15.2 x 5.9 x 0.9 inches the Logitech G915 TKL is actually a compact gaming keyboard available online. Granted, all Tenkeyless boards lack Num-Pad, you aren’t sacrificing probably a lot for this compact design.

As far as design is concerned, the G915 TKL boasts all the necessary keys including a full-sized enter key, delete and backspace keys. Plus the dedicated media controls at the upper right corner are the real beauty of this little beast. Surprisingly, the media keys are the first to be added to this TKL design keyboard.

The G915 TKL is the beauty of Tenkeyless keyboards whose everything inspires and surprises the user. Ranging from the low profile-keycaps to the brush metal design and the raised switches along with diverse lighting options, the keyboard looks like an all-in-one gaming keyboard. And most of all the keyboard comes with 2.4GHz wireless buttons, Game mode (to disable certain function buttons), Bluetooth connectivity, keys for macro recording, and adjusting brightness features; the features which complete the keyboard in every aspect.

The only thing missing in G915 TKL is the lack of wrist rest. Though the most demanding feature the company failed to add in this model, I think the wrist rest was left intentionally to reduce the size and weight of the keyboard and to make it a minimal design. This is where the design lags and you’ll have to get a separate premium wrist pad for added comfort and to prevent your wrists from getting sore. For me, investing more in an already expensive product seems an imprudent idea.

G915 TKL keys and Typing Experience

As the Logitech G915 TKL is the successor of the full-sized G915, the TKL size gives an advantage over the choice of three gorgeous key switches including, GKL Tactile, GL Linear, and GL Clicky. The one we used was the Tactile, because, I love the tactile feel of the boards, but believe me all three switches have their own charm and attraction.

In comparison, the Tactile keys are noise-free and require half actuation force; the Linear ones are silent and require full actuation force; the Clicky switches are noisy and require less actuation force.

The G915 TKL keycaps are made of plastic. The gentle curve over the keycaps offers sufficient space to the fingers for extra comfort. Though plastic built, the keycaps give a premium feel.

Technically speaking, the Tactile keys have total travel of 2.7mm, 1.5mm actuation point, and require 50g actuation force. Indeed, the tactile bumps make typing faster and easier.

In my experience the Tactile keys gave an excellent typing performance and, even I was able to reach a speed of 123 wpm with a 98.5% accuracy rate. This is much better than HyperX Alloys Elite (110 wpm with 98% accuracy), SteelSeries Apex Pro (117 wpm with 98% accuracy), but behind a little bit from Corsair K95 RGB Platinum and Razer Huntsman Elite. Overall, the typing performance of GL Tactile keys is highly responsive and amazing.

G915 TKL Gaming Experience

As per Logitech’s claim, the tactile GL switches are perfect for high-end FPS gaming. On the other hand, the linear switches are best for MMO and action games.

As already mentioned, the unit that we received came with tactile switches. While playing Battlefield V the switches felt more responsive and fast and, the short, as well as long presses, were merely easy. As compared to the Cherry MX Brown the GL tactile switches needed less travel distance and actuation force making inputs easy to use and feel.

While playing Overwatch, the low profile keys gave an excellent response in enabling strategic and speedy action, not to mention the fast performance in activating different moves and in moving from one move to the next one. Besides, as I was already the best gaming mouse in both titles the moves were quite calculated and precise in every aspect.

In my whole gaming as well as typing experience, the keyboard’s wireless dongle efficiently delivered the powerful signal strength with not a single dropout. This was accomplished due to Logitech’s Lightspeed dongle technology.

The dongle offers premium-grade wireless connectivity. As per Logitech’s claims, the dongle is built and tested for all of the gaming environments. So, for serious gaming prefer a dongle over a Bluetooth connection. The good thing is that if you don’t like wireless connectivity, you have the option of wired connectivity with an included Micro USB to USB Type-A cable. (For better connectivity you may also need the DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, or DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter).

To make it gamer-friendly, Logitech has added additional handy features such as toggle between three profiles by using F keys. Though the keyboard lacks n-key rollover, in my case it still was able to register as many as 25 keys simultaneously. Sadly the G915 TKL lacks 5 programmable G buttons which the full-sized G915 is equipped with which means the multitaskers might be a disadvantage in this regard.

Battery Life

As far as battery life is concerned the G915 TKL comes with a powerful battery. In a single charge, the battery can last 40 hours. For charging the keyboard uses Micro USB to USB Type-A cable. In my experience, the keyboard with maximum brightness and in full working delivered the best battery performance. In 13 hours of maximum use, only 1/4^th battery was dropped.

The good thing is that the keyboard is energy efficient. When the board is inactive for more than 1 minute the brightness drops 50% and turns off completely if not used for five minutes. Besides, the lights give a breathing red flash when the battery life is below 15%. This gives you an indication to charge before the battery runs out in the mid-game.

Features and Software

G915 TKL comes with Logitech’s G Hub software. At first, the software might not seem intuitive, getting used to the software is relatively easy. The software allows reprogramming lighting patterns of keys, media controls, G-Logo, and RGB brightness buttons. Besides, the nine preset RGB effects make it easy to handle the lighting feature.

G915 TKL – Testing Results

Overall, the G915 TKL is an amazing gaming keyboard that you can probably buy at the high price tag. The hefty price tag of 200$ is the only limitation that restricts the gamers from buying it. In fact, this is one of the most expensive TKL wireless keyboards.

For cheaper options and an alternative to Logitech G915 TKL you may go for Corsair K95 RGB Platinum, and Razer Huntsman Elite. Both are amazing in gaming performance and durable in use.

However, if you are satisfied with the features the G926 TKL offers in this price range, the G915 TKL compact keyboard is one of the best gaming keyboards to buy and use for a long time. In fact, some of these features aren’t yet available in TKL design. So, if you are willing to pay a premium price for a high-end gaming keyboard, the Logitech G915 TKL is the perfect choice you can make right now.
