Image Quality

Considering the Aspect ratio of 16:10 and 1920 x 1200 display, the monitor ranks among the Full HD models offering a decent 1080p resolution. The 24.1-inch screen is wider than the rival models, which in combination with the 1920 x 1200 resolution, delivers an impressive 94 PPI (pixels per inch) pixel density.

Its pixel density is roughly the same as that of the standard 23.8′′ 1080p displays with 93 pixels. In short, you get a solid display without being scaled and with attractive details and text.

Due to the IPS panel’s wide viewing angles of 178°, you can always expect the colors to look precisely the same, no matter how you view the screen. For sure, a few things are worth noticing about ASUS PA248QV: First, it is factory calibrated at Delta E < 2 to ensure professional-grade precision, and second, it features 100% of sRGB colors to create a crystal clear display.

The rest of the features were the same that all standard IPS panels are equipped with. The monitor features a 300-nit peak brightness, 8-bit color depth, and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio for an impressive 16 million colors.

Sadly, the monitor has a native drawback that all the IPS panels have – the IPS glow. This is the most common issue, resulting from which you will notice the corners ‘glowing’. However, rest assured that IPS glows vary in intensity between different monitor types, but they tend to appear only when you view dark content in a dark room with the brightness set high.

Performance

I admit that this is not truly a gaming monitor; it still comes with some fantastic features that entry-level gamers need for an immersive gaming experience.

Yes! We don’t appreciate its input lag of around 9ms, which may delay screen movement and your action. Moreover, the response time is also not as impressive as it should be since we observed visible shadows behind the fast-moving objects.

Considering these loopholes, think again if you are buying it for FPS gaming. However, if you’re interested in competitive FPS gaming, you’ll need a display with 144Hz+ anyway. But for casual entry-level gaming, the response time and input lags of this level would be sufficient. This is because the refresh rate of 75Hz can efficiently deliver a significant boost in picture clarity while playing video games.

Furthermore, it is compatible with AMD Adaptive-Sync, which supports variable refresh rates (VRRs) ranging from 48 to 75Hz (For DisplayPort and HDMI ports, respectively) and NVIDIA (For DisplayPort only). Considering this feature, if you plan to use a compatible GPU with this monitor, you will observe an evident change in refresh rate provided that you enable this feature with the graphics card. The Adaptive-Sync will help eliminate the screen tearing and stuttering with almost negligible input lag.

Bear in mind; the refresh rate won’t work under 48FPS. However, you can enable a variable refresh rate by using the CRU (Custom Resolution Utility).

Last but not least, the monitor features low-blue light filters and flicker-free backlighting to provide comfortable viewing angles even under intensive gaming sessions.

Features

The ASUS Pro-Art PA248QV comes with five hotkeys near the right bottom bezel for easy customization of OSD (On-Screen Display). Besides the various pre-calibrated picture presets such as sRGB, Darkroom, Reading, etc. available in the OSD, there are some additional useful features within the menu.

The monitor features Rapid Rendering technology that, once enabled, reduces motion blur by strobing the monitor’s backlight; however, since the monitor comes with a 75Hz refresh rate only, you might not see clear improvements in the display. Also, it features advanced settings, such as gamma (from 1.8 to 2.6), 6-axis hue/saturation, and standard image adjustment tools.

Remember, the OSD menu has ASCR and the VividPixel features. However, If you want to enjoy a perfect image and video quality without any sharpness issues, we recommend disabling this option.

Aside from that, the monitor includes features like “QuickFit” and “Trace Free.” The former option lets you align the photos and documents in a grid layout, while the latter option helps to increase the response time speed. In our case, we didn’t set it over 60, as above this setting, the inverse ghosting was visible.

Design & Connectivity

With the monitor stand, you can adjust the height to 130mm, tilt it to -5°/35°, pivot it to 90° and swivel it to 90°, and mount it up to 100x100mm using the VESA mount.

It has ultra-thin side and top bezels, while both bottom bezels are thicker with centimeter rulers. Due to the screen’s anti-glare matte finish, you will not experience reflections.

Connectivity-wise, the monitor features two small built-in speakers, a headphones jack, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 1x HDMI 1.4, 1x VGA port, and 4x USB 3.0.

Service and support

Its casing and panel are covered by a three-year warranty that also includes the backlight. As part of the Zero Bright Dot Guarantee, any stuck pixels will be replaced with a new monitor. In addition to providing toll-free support throughout the day, the company offers online chat, e-mail, and e-mail.

Price & Similar Monitors

Price-wise, the ASUS PA248QV costs $200. We recommend this monitor best for photo-editing and entry-level gaming. However, it is not suitable for mid-level or high-end gaming.

Its sister model, the ASUS PA247CV, is also available with a 1920 x 1080 display, DisplayPort 1.2 Alt mode, a USB Type-C port, and 65W Power Delivery.

Apart from that, we recommend going for a 27″ model – the ASUS PA278QV – that offers a decent 2560×1440 screen resolution with almost the same features for a higher level of screen resolution.

If you want to have the same features in another model, we recommend going for ViewSonic VP2468 that is a bit good in performance in the same price range.

Testing Results

The ASUS PA248QV is by far the best monitor you can get for under $200 if you enjoy doing a little bit of photo editing and gaming on the side.
